The Confidence to Pray

The hum of the car engine filled the space as I navigated the morning traffic. My daughter sat beside me, scrolling through her phone, half-listening to the praise music playing softly in the background. The clock on the dashboard read 6:59 a.m.—almost time.

I tapped the screen of my phone, connecting to the Zoom call through my car’s Bluetooth. As the participants joined one by one, their voices layered over the soft melody. Some greeted each other with sleepy yet expectant hellos, while others remained muted, quietly settling into the moment.

This was our sacred space—Interceding Sisters. A gathering of women, meeting virtually yet connected in spirit, setting aside time to pray before the day swept us away.

I took a breath and unmuted myself.

“Our confidence in prayer is derived from our identity in Christ,” I began, keeping my eyes on the road. “If we don’t believe that we are the righteousness of God, if we don’t believe that we are washed clean by His blood, if we don’t believe that we have the authority to declare His will on Earth—then we must go back to the table and be reminded of who we are.”

The call went silent. I knew they were listening.

“Our confidence does not come from ourselves,” I continued, “but from the redemptive work of the cross. Because of Calvary, we belong to Him. Because we are the righteousness of God through Christ, we have the authority and the power to pray His will.”

A few quiet “Amens” broke the silence.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV)

I glanced at my daughter, who was now listening more intently.

“Don’t let your old identity hinder your prayer life,” I urged. “You do have the power. You do have the authority. Through Jesus Christ, you can pray with boldness, with precision, and without ceasing.”

The car slowed at a red light. I shifted in my seat and smiled, thinking of the heart of our group—why we did this every week, why we sacrificed sleep, why we pressed in.

“At Interceding Sisters, our tagline is simple: We gather. We pray. We believe.”

A few more women unmuted, whispering in agreement.

“And that last part,” I continued, “is key. We believe.

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20, NKJV)

“We don’t just pray—we believe God for the impossible,” I reminded them. “Prayer without faith is powerless. But when we gather, when we pray, and when we believe—that’s where the power is. That’s when mountains move.”

A stirring filled the call, faith rising like a flame catching wind.

“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NKJV)

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NKJV)

The light turned green, and I eased onto the road.

“This season, don’t allow your identity to be attacked,” I declared. “You are no longer who you used to be. You have the power, through Christ, to pray effectively. To believe for the hard things. To stand in faith. You were made new in Him.”

A deep breath. A moment of stillness.

“And because of that, you can pray with confidence.”

One by one, the women began praying—some fervently, some in quiet agreement. My daughter reached over and squeezed my hand.

The atmosphere was shifting.

This was the power of identity.

This was the power of prayer.

This was the power of prayer.
